Community Based Services : HIV/AIDS

DEFINITION OF SERVICE
Community-based care and support enables the individual, family Community to have access to services nearest to home, which encourages participation by people, responds to the needs of people. Encourages traditional community life and strengthens mutual aid opportunities and social responsibilities.

Child Care Act No 74 of 1983
Social Assistance Act 59 of 1992

BACKGROUND/INFORMATION
This programmes focuses On children and help communities with the following;

  • To address immediate issues of poverty as they relate to basic needs and resources, and to facilitate and enable sustainable development and income generation which can address medium and longer-term issues of poverty.
  • To effectively respond to the spread of the epidemic through integrated poverty alleviation strategies.
  • To enable communities at prevention, early intervention and care and development level to prepare for and deal effectively with HIV/AIDS and its consequences.
  • To address the needs of the most vulnerable people, for example Older persons, children, women and people with disabilities.
  • To support and facilitate the delivery of services and to build the Capacities of communities, especially NGOs.

PURPOSE AND AIMS OF THE PROJECT
The following services are rendered through this programme;

  • Identification of families and children who are in need.
  • Provision of food, clothing, shelter, social relief and referral to Health services.
  • Child protection service from abuse and neglect.
  • Day care services for children.
  • Support to NGO's, CBOs and FBO's who provide welfare services.
  • Alternate care for vulnerable children, preferably in the community for example foster care.
  • Information to increase accessibility to grants and other financial support services.
  • Application for social grants such as foster care grants, disability
  • Grants for terminally ill adults, child support and care dependency grants
  • Community mobilization.

WHO RENDERS THE SERVICES?
The service is rendered by Social Workers in Partnership with NGO’S, CBO’s and related departments.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SERVICE?
Children, Individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS.
